Threads of Life is a year long creative and spiritual project

We begin on September 10th 2026

Workshops are held every other Thursday 9.30 - 1.00pm.

The project is inspired by St John’s Gospel and we will use a lovely workbook of the gospel. Using Heritage Crafts such as spinning, dyeing, weaving and wet felting we will make a body of work which we hope to exhibit in 2027.

Weaving Faith. Creating Beauty. Living the Gospel.

The workshops will take place at St. George’s on Thursday mornings (9.30 – 1.00) on a fortnightly . We begin with the fleece from the sheep in the field next to the church. The fleece is prepared for spinning. The prepared fleece is carded to align the fibres. This becomes a ‘batt’.

You will be offered your own portion of the batt (from the local sheep) and this will be yours to create with as they wish, along with a variety of other fibres sourced from British farms.

The batt may be spun using drop spindles or a spinning wheel to produce yarn.

The yarn may be dyed.

The dyed yarn may be used to produce artwork.

The artwork may take the form of a woven piece, a wet felted object (wet felting is the process of making fabric from wool before it is spun) alongside drawing, painting, poetry, prose etc.

All this while working through our workbook of St. John’s Gospel, in a friendly environment, meeting new people and learning new skills.
